I'm a Certified Interpreter, born and raised to two Deaf parents in Perth, WA. I've been qualified since February, 2020 and have worked in many different areas since that time, most of which has been community work.
I'm a Coda (Child of Deaf Adults) who has been working in various communication roles in the community and education for the past 4 years.
I'm passionate about accessibility and awareness surrounding the Deaf community, both here in Western Australia as well as nationally. I have a range of experience in different areas such as the NDIS, Education, Advocacy, Performance and Events, Medical, and more.
About Luke
Growing up with Auslan and the Deaf community in the early 2000's, there were very few to no events, shows or performances that included Auslan interpretation. Due to this, many families miss out on 'accessible experiences' together. I'm committed and passionate about ensuring the arts and events industry embrace Auslan interpretation, and to eliminate the stigma that these events aren't of interest to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
Platform/Stage interpreting is a favourite area of mine, and I love nothing more than seeing Deaf, Hard of Hearing and families with Codas in an audience for a show that, 10 years ago, would've been inaccessible.

Meet Luke
Born in Perth, Western Australia to two Profoundly Deaf adults, I spent a lot of my life looking for places to "fit-in." After working for the retail industry, (specifically, jewellery) for a few years, using my Auslan to ensure clear communication around contracts and commitments to Deaf and Hard of Hearing customers, I was approached by a government organisation to begin working with Deaf children. This led me to start working in Education, specifically at the local Deaf school.
From here, my passion for the community was reignited, and shortly after, I was lucky enough to be successful in enrolling in the government funded Auslan Masterclass, run by Access Plus WA Deaf, which allowed me to fully embrace and explore my Coda culture, as well as Interpreting as a career. I studied while working as a Support Worker and Communication Guide amongst the community.
Since becoming qualified in February of 2020, I've worked with hundreds of clients, building my skills, relationships, and knowledge. Being a self-reflective Interpreter is important to me, to keep up-to-date with industry skills and knowledge, and to continue my personal and career growth.
I'm currently trying to work as much as possible whilst undertaking professional development sessions as well as engaging experienced peer-mentors.
